Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA)

This type of funding is available for anyone who has a white card, a gold, or has served at least one day in continuous full-time service either for the armed forces or for the army reserve.

You can access support for any mental health condition, whether that is related to your time in service or not.

Normally there is no limit on the number of sessions you can access. The only exception to this is if you are seeking support for trauma or PTSD. In these cases, we would need to send a review through at the end of eight sessions to access further funding.

The way that you can access this support is by going your GP and requesting a mental health assessment. When you do that mental health, assessment ask your GP to refer you to TrueHope Psychology or whoever your preferred therapist is and bring that referral with you to the first session along with your DVA whitecard or goldcard. We will be able to process that rebate for you.

You can also access telephone counselling by calling the Veterans and Veterans Families Counselling Service (VVCS) on 1800 011 046.
